How to better manage your time in this fast paced digital life

Here is a quick exercise for those who may not be using a calendar to manage both professional and personal responsibilities. Many people use calendars just for work meetings or just for kids' events in their life. I recommend using a calendar to manage all of your important events, meetings and tasks. Avoid separating your tasks from your calendar by using the task list. Instead, put those tasks into the calendar as appointments. If you want to use your work calendar, and are concerned about privacy, you can mark the personal items as Private in just a couple of extra clicks.

Exercise:

  • Before going to sleep tonight, think about every significant action you know you need to take tomorrow (meetings, classes or tasks).

  • Take 30 - 60 seconds on each to consider how much time you may need for each and then give them actual calendar entries for when you think you could/should complete them.

  • Set 10- or 15-minute reminders for each item on your calendar.

  • Tomorrow, do your absolute best to complete each of these items during the timeslots given; only reschedule if you truly have something more important to do at that time.

  • At the end of the day, track how many actions you completed out of the total number and assess if you were more effective than before you read this post.

Let me know how it goes.
